about jalilah

Jalilah began belly dancing when she fell in love with this form of dance after traveling throughout the Mediteranean and Middle East.  It was also a way to carry on the traditions of her Greek heritage.  Jalilah dazzles audiences with her energy and enthusiasm.  She performs both as a soloist and as a member of the Ya Helewa! dance company.  Jalilah will liven up your next event with her unique style of dance.  Jalilah specializes in Cabaret-style dance performing dance styles from Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Lebanon, and other Middle Eastern Nations.  Her performances often include various props such as zills, veil, sword, cane, and candles.   She mixes well with audiences of all ages and loves to encourage audience participation!

A perpetual student, she regularly attends workshops and weekly classes both to refine her own technique and to enhance her knowledge of the art.  Jalilah’s extensive dance background contributed to her ability to master the many different forms of Middle Eastern Dance.  Starting at the age of four, Jalilah studied ballet, jazz, and tap. At an early age, she joined the Lorraine Dancers performing jazz and tap throughout Orange County. Traveling with this dance company to Hawaii, Jalilah had the opportunity to study both Tahitian and Hawaiian dance including poi ball, gourd, cane and other traditional island dances.   Jalilah can be seen belly dancing at Ventura’s popular Greek at the Harbor restaurant and various other festivals & events throughout Southern California.
